Did you make it onto the 2019 Glotel Awards shortlist?

It’s that time of year when even Brexit and the Ashes pale into insignificance compared to the unveiling of the Global Telecoms Awards shortlist.

There were a record number of entrants this year, resulting in a record number of shortlisted entries. The incredibly diverse range of participants, products and projects illustrates what a vibrant industry telecoms is at it embarks on the 5G era. In acknowledgement of that new awards were created, not just for 5G but AI, digital transformation and IoT, as well as an opportunity to crown the operator of the year for the first time.

“Over a hundred entries were shortlisted across 21 categories this year, which is great to see,” said Scott Bicheno, Editor of Telecoms.com. “The start of the 5G era has presumably contributed to this increased desire for industry recognition and the great response we received shows the new categories hit the mark. As ever I’m really looking forward to hosting the awards evening later this year, which looks set to be a top night.”

So, are you still in with a shout of winning? To find out, cross your fingers and click here. Now it’s over to the panel of independent judges to do the tricky job of picking the winners, which will be announced at the awards evening on 7 November.

Telecoms industry set to finally get the recognition it deserves

Hard working telecoms industry professionals are set to finally emerge from decades of bleak anonymity thanks to the new, improved Glotel Awards.

The 2019 version has just been launched and is open for entries. Now in its seventh year the event is single-handedly responsible for plucking telecoms vendors, service providers and the general ecosystem from obscurity and putting them on the pedestal they richly deserve. It would only be slightly hyperbolic to say the awards change people’s lives.

But the awards team passionately believe you can never have too much philanthropy, so have spent every waking moment since the triumphant 2018 event racking their brains for ways to improve it further, seemingly impossible though that might seem. So this year it has a bunch of new categories a shiny new brand and many other juicy surprises up its sleeve.

“Last year was a great laugh, with Russel Kane warming up the room perfectly and a really broad selection of winners from across the industry,” said Scott Bicheno, Editor of Telecoms.com. “I don’t know how Sophie and her team do it, but somehow they’ve managed to raise the bar once more and I’m counting the days until the next Awards evening already.”

“I don’t know what the telecoms industry would do without you lot, if I’m honest,” said some bloke Bicheno met in the pub. “I’ve just about had it up to here with vendors and operators not getting the recognition they deserve so I’d like to buy you all a drink. Just pints mind, no cocktails or nothing like that.”

All that remains is for you, yes you vendor whose always complaining about how nobody has heard of you, to go to the Awards site and see which category you think best fits what you do. The 2019 Glotel Awards will be the biggest and best yet and, quite frankly, you can’t afford not to be involved.

Telecoms was the ultimate winner at the 2018 Glotel Awards

The winners were evenly distributed among a broad range of operators, vendors and industry specialists at the 2018 Global Telecoms Awards.

A very enjoyable night, which featured a hilarious stand-up set from comedian Russell Kane, culminated with the winners of 14 awards being revealed. The awards span the full breadth of the telecoms industry, recognising the many technologies and activities required to connect the world.

You can see the full list of winners and highly commended entries below. It was especially pleasing to see so many different companies represented among the winners, indicating a healthy  and diverse industry. The headline of this story is a bit tongue-in-cheek, but it’s with total sincerity that we, the Telecoms.com team, say it’s a pleasure and a privilege to play a part in celebrating the global telecoms community.

The elite of global telecoms is finally revealed

The shortlist for the Global Telecoms Awards 2018 has been unveiled, identifying the companies, products and initiatives that have defined the industry over the past year.

68 operators, vendors, service providers and consultancies will now be put in from of the panel of independent judges, which will have the agonizing task of picking 14 winners from this exceptional group. The award categories span the full range of all the topics that matter in global telecoms, from 5G to IoT to security. A veritable brain-dump of telecoms buzzwords.

“I’m really looking forward to announcing the winners at the awards dinner in November,” said Telecoms.com Editor Scott Bicheno. “If the event is anything like last year it will be a great night and the venue had better make sure it’s got plenty of champagne in reserve.” Joining him on stage, this year’s celebrity host will be Russel Kane, who is hilarious.

Oh go on then, have a couple more weeks

Only the cruelest of websites could fail to be moved by the vehement desperation of your pleas, so we’re giving two more weeks to submit your Glotel Awards entries.

But that’s it OK? No amount of threats, emotional blackmail or claims of mitigating circumstances will persuade us to budge from the new deadline of 10 August. To be honest some of us think we’ve been far too generous as it is, and that you’ll never learn if we keep letting you off the hook, but once more the bleeding hearts have had their way.

So what on earth are you waiting for? What could possibly be more important when your professional reputation is hanging in the balance? “Last year I selfishly decided to take my one holiday of the year instead of sending in my entry but I won’t be making that mistake again, that’s for sure,” said Denis, a telecoms marketing manager who is barely clinging on to his job and who only spoke to us on the condition that we don’t reveal his name. “I just hope other people can learn from my horrendous experience and get their priorities right.”

Bravely spoken Denis, it takes a strong person to admit to their mistakes. Denis has suffered so you don’t have to, dear reader. It’s only slightly hyperbolic to note that entering the 2018 Glotel Awards could make the different between professional triumph and catastrophe. So go on holiday if you want – we’re not stopping you – but don’t come crying to us when your competitors are basking in the unique glory of owning a Glotel Award.

Your professional reputation hangs in the balance

Marketing managers throughout the telecoms industry are walking a tightrope as they deliberate over entering the only industry awards event worth bothering with.

Entries to the Global Telecoms Awards 2018 opened recently and we’re seeing frankly shocking hesitation over the easiest decision telecoms industry professionals will ever have to make in their lives. It’s simple: enter the awards and maybe receive the kind of recognition normally reserved for Hollywood actors or sports stars. What’s not to like?

“I thought about entering last year but, you know what it’s like, other stuff got in the way and I ended up missing the deadline,” confided one industry insider on condition of anonymity because we just made them up. “I had forgotten about the whole thing, but when I read about the award winners and what a great night it was I was kicking myself, I don’t mind telling you!”

Does that sound like a happy, fulfilled person to you? No, of course it doesn’t. They’re probably in counselling right now to deal with the psychological scars their mistake caused. But there’s hope; the best therapy of all would be to simply enter this year’s awards and turn over a completely new leaf.

Here’s a video of everyone having a top time last year. Watch it, watch it now! Actually no, you shouldn’t waste another moment before going to the awards site and getting involved. Come to think of it you could have the video open in one browser page while you go to the awards site in another. Yes, that’s a good idea, do that. Well go on then, what are you waiting for?
